Tallawarra Lands Local Environmental Study
In 2003, TRUenergy purchased the site of the former Tallawarra coal fired power station. It was purchased with an approved Development Application for a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power station, and initial site construction works have now commenced.
The Tallawarra Lands site consists of 17 separate lots with a total area of approximately 600 hectares. Approximately 18 ha is required for the power station proper.
Willana was commissioned, by tender, to prepare an LES to investigate the suitability and capacity of the site for these and other potential future uses.
In conjunction with the finalisation of the LES, a masterplan and draft DCP, based on the LES, will be prepared separately in consultation with Willana. A draft LEP, also based on the LES, will be prepared by Council officers in liaison with Willana.
The LES will meet best practice standards, and provide an understanding of:

The physical, social, and economic makeup of an area

The relationship between the proposal and the needs of the broader community

Aspects of the natural environment that require protection and enhancement

Development options and possible trade-offs between competing land uses

The implications of various actions and land use options, explained in terms that may readily be understood by the broader community
